Guyana 2026 Double-Cab Pickup Tax Rules: Why Toyota Hilux 2.4L and 2.8L Must Be Quoted Differently
Updated: 21 hours ago
If you are buying a Toyota Hilux from Japan for Guyana in 2026, engine size is not a minor specification. It can change the tax treatment, the commercial ceiling and which Japan-side units make sense to pursue.
The 2026 Guyana rule that changes the buying decision
The Guyana Revenue Authority states that, effective February 16, 2026, imported double-cab pickups not exceeding 2,500cc are VAT-exempt. GRA also lists flat excise tax treatment for double-cab pickups: GYD 2,000,000 for engines not exceeding 2,000cc and GYD 3,000,000 for engines above 2,000cc but not exceeding 2,500cc. That makes displacement a commercial filter before a buyer even compares individual vehicles.
Why a Hilux 2.4L can sit in a different buying lane from a 2.8L
Many Japan-market Hilux units use the 2.4-litre diesel configuration, which falls inside the not-exceeding-2,500cc threshold described by GRA. A 2.8-litre Hilux sits above that threshold, so buyers should not assume the same tax outcome. JPNentry does not treat 'Hilux' as one commercial product: engine, year, grade, mileage, configuration and destination rules must be verified together before quoting.
Used vehicles also need Japan-side inspection planning
For used motor vehicles, GRA requires an inspection certificate from an authorised inspection agency in the country of export. GRA states that this certificate must be uploaded with the customs declaration in ASYCUDA. This means the sourcing decision should include inspection eligibility before the vehicle is purchased and shipped—not after.
What a Guyana buyer should send before JPNentry checks Japan
Send the exact model, engine size, model year range, grade, maximum mileage, exterior colour, required options, quantity, target Japan-side buying price, destination port and timing. For a Hilux, include whether 2.4L is acceptable or mandatory. JPNentry can then compare Japanese auction, dealer and wholesale routes against the exact requirement instead of sending random stock.
Do not quote from a vehicle listing alone
A useful buyer quote needs more than the displayed vehicle price. Confirm acquisition cost, Japan-side fees, inspection, inland movement, documentation, shipping basis, timing and any destination-side items that remain outside the quote. Tax treatment should be checked against the latest GRA rules and the buyer's licensed customs broker before commitment.

Send a Live RFQ to Japan
For a live Japan-side check, send: Model / Engine / Year / Grade / Mileage / Quantity / Target Price / Destination / Timing. JPNentry verifies the Japan-side sourcing route and evidence before presenting a commercial offer.
